ahhh how exciting! loved meat girl....excited for more meat

(1 edit)

I had so many feelings while reading this...Alice and Jess felt like two different survival mechanisms, fighting for control of the system. I appreciate that neither one of them was all good, or all bad, their methods both have their own pros and cons. Also they're both quite charming! Very enjoyable to read about them and see their dynamic with each other.

I love the art style, music, and audio design, it combines together nicely.

The final scene was SO MUCH in a good way. The dynamics between Alice and Jess and Ellie were just....aaaa! Awful! Sickening! Delicious! Really really good shit.sketch page

here's notes that i sketched while reading!

I went into this sequel with a deep love for Loner_Dog, in fact, Loner_Dog was my primary inspiration for entering Toxic Yuri Jam 2 myself.

This feels like a very fitting sequel. A lot of the same feelings explored, as well as a lot of different ones. Still playing with and pushing the medium of visual novels to its fullest extent.

Harsh Noise and Roaches are such rough-around-the-edges characters in general, it's very sweet seeing them spend time together and be sappy with each other. Xelia felt more fleshed out, with her flair for dramatic wording and absolute intolerance of bullshit. Death Industrial is fascinating, I have a lot of emotions about her that are hard to sum up in words.

I was touched by how quiet and peaceful the scene of Harsh Noise's actual death was. Despite all the build up, I wasn't expecting that — I thought there would be a violent element to it, like ritual sacrifice almost? Maybe that was me assuming things about these characters that weren't true, that they would erotocize the process of death as much as dead bodies. Opiod overdose is one of the least painful ways to go.

Seeing Roaches, Argo, and Xelia's very different reactions to Noise's death felt very grounded. It feels true to life and grief.

I have mixed feelings about Snek's appearace in the back half of the VN. I was incredibly touched to hear from it, initially. Especially since the works it created are so unique, and so important to me. 4th wall breaks feel fitting for a story like this.

But the pacing of the sections that switched between Snek and the cast of characters felt very drawn out after a while — I kept thinking the VN was over, but there were like 10 scenes left. This was disconcerting, and caused me to rush through the later part of the VN more than I wanted to.

I think I will probably end up re-reading portions and revisiting this. Such a mix of hope and sadness and anger and grief. Everything about this hit closer to home than I'd think a story about trans necrophiles could, Despite my critique of the pacing at the end, this was a really incredible work.

You are beloved.

OMG that's so iconic honestly... and even med student verified, amazing. You did an incredible job with it!!

Man this RULED. Deliciously indulgent. The dynamic of the sad little meow-meow that is Minette with sadistic, powerful Vermelia is so awful and terrible and hot. The art style throughout is wonderful, distinctive, and suits the story very well. I want to pet both of them.

This was the first VN of significant length I chose to play from the Toxic Yuri VN jam, and I'm so happy that I did. Amazing work!

Surgery scene was excruciating and beautiful at the same time, I found myself saying "oh, the author KNOWS things about surgery!!" out loud during it lol. Also physically squirming. As someone who does not know much about surgery, it seemed extremely detailed and thought-out and knowledgable. Morbidly fascinating to read. Probably will read it again.

Also the fantasy of wanting to just feel good forever is so fucking real. Despite how fucked up the procedure was, and how unhealthy Vermelias control over Minette is, I found myself a little jealous. Which is perfect for this kind of story, I think. You can see Vermelia's vision.

Anyway, amazing job creating this VN to be perfectly indulgent and delicious for this niche, fucked-up audience!!I included the page of sketchy notes I made while playing. So much good prose, and very good quotes.

Yay!! Thank you so much for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed the plot and the art and  the writing :)

Isn't the music lovely?? Your pieces added SO much, and I'm so grateful for Canrizan's Canon offering theirs as well, and for ConsBosD23 posting theirs on Freesound. I'm glad you also felt that they matched and added to the atmosphere! Wouldn't have felt the same at all without this music, so thank you again for that.

I definitely want to make more VNs in the future!

Thank you for reading, and for the kind words!!

Oh yeah, Silvia is certainly a very specific type of person lmao. I'm very glad some of the cult dynamics came though.

Also thank you for your writing feedback, I really appreciate it! It especially means a lot coming from you, since your VN packed such a punch in so few words.

I love doing atmospheric writing, dialogue and interactions are much more of a challenge for me haha.

I also haven't written fiction this long...ever?? I did some (bad) creative writing as a teenager, but everything was only a page or two long. So if this was still an interesting story despite the clunky/repetitive prose, I'm quite happy! And excited to improve my writing going forward.

Yooo I'm so excited for the full version?! Hell yes

Thank you again for this super thoughtful review, and your sketch page!! I'm so glad you enjoyed my writing <3

absolutely beautiful game

the twists in this are so fascinating and delicious and unique. filled me with dread the whole time, but the dread shifted partway through. i love these weird, fucked up girls

truly iconic. hot, toxic, deeply concerning.
the art style fucks, the writing fucks

sickening character dynamics. i love them

Man this is such a good VN. Aaaa! I appreciate the exploration of the ways that furry shapes your identity and the ways you see yourself....that part really hit on a personal level for me.

Delightful art style. I would eat this art. The way things get increasingly violently stylised that one scene is just *chefs kiss*

The characters are often uncomfortable and awkward and I think that's the best thing about them. Some of them feel stranger than anyone I've ever met, and some of them feel like people I already know.

I LOVE your exploration of the ways that being too "timid" can be toxic to someone, and to everyone around them. You absolutely nailed the writing of that.

haunting!!!

this art style absolutely fucks

One of the best-made, best-written bits of furry smut I've had the pleasure of playing!

The characters are all so cute and fun to get to know. Very hot, too. Primarily porn, but with a good balance of porn and plot. Like even when there's not smut on screen, the characters convos are often about horny topics. The woods is a little poly/kinky utopia where everyone is horny all the time lol. Variety in gameplay keeps it enjoyable and not repetitive.

I cannot get over how big-brained "what if spotted lanternfly but horny??" is as a game concept.

Absolutely rocked it. It's weird and grim and bizarre and hot? Super memorable.

I love how Callie's soft-girl fashion masks a really creepy, hateful, and manipulative personality. Need more evil women who look soft and cute, cuz god knows I've met a few of them in real life.

The UI and visuals are just top notch, the attention to detail is crazy. The characters blink!!! A little bit of parallax in the background really makes the crochet granny squares pop. And the little stickers....the notebook paper motif is super nice to look at. Delicious and delightful all around.

absolutely masterful story told with minimal assets. pacing, reveals, dialogue, it's all incredibly done

I think about this all the fuckin time dude
incredible comic. tender and toxic all at once.
named after my favorite trope....aaa!

God this is SO good and I'm looking forward to the full version!! Vtuber collectives are RIFE with potential drama and I'm so excited to see where this goes. Also BB Wolfclaw, you're an EXPERT at writing Weird Women, so I'm always hype to see you start exploring new characters....new strange women to meet...yayyy!

All the characters have different and subtle dynamics. They're very online. I am also very online, so this is great for me. The dumb little crushes...the resentment...stupid jokes masking something much deeper...

The contrast between their online personas and IRL selves is really interesting, too. Admittedly I had to do backwards and re-read parts because I genuinely wasn't sure who was who.

The UI on this is beautiful, and the shifts between different layouts (discord call to NVL text to streaming) keep the whole thing super exciting and dynamic.

Also I love that librarian side character I want to be her friend....

One of the most unique visual novels I've ever read. I think of it often after playing it 6ish months ago.

Little style elements from this made it into my own VN (NVL style dialogue and text, mostly! This was one of my first exposures to it and i found it really complelling)

The harsh black and white visuals are very evocative, and pair well with long blocks of text. It's just beautiful and stylish to look at

Absolutely SICKENING subject matter, like this is a VN where I had to pause because I felt so ill at one part.

The relationship between Mona and Lave is so rich and complicated and absolutely delicious and horrific to read about. The deep love they have for each other despite everything is just incredible. Aaaaa!!!Heterosexuals done RIGHT /half joking

Also, this is true of all of your art, Vesta, but I love the way you incorporate fatness and disability and bodies that don't often get depicted into your stories. I love that Mona gets to be visibly "deformed", in a horror story, without that ever being treated as a horrifying element. <3 !!!

ow. this hurt

particularly the line "sometimes you look at me with jealousy / and it makes me hate myself more", that was a big dynamic in a painful relationship i was in. they were very jealous of features i was dysphoric about, and it worsened my dysphoria a lot. i imagine this is pretty common in T4T relationships

incredible skill making something so impactful with simple illustrations and less than 500 words

Oooghh, this one hit hard given *gestures at the state of the world*
Writing is really solid, packs so much in those 1,000 words.

Also the pixel art is gorgeous, this totally deserves a bigger/better thumbnail on itch.io!

This is lovely! I often have it in the background.

This feels like a brief snapshot of real lives. Feels like girls I know, or have met briefly. I admire your skill at writing dialogue. Addiction is messy, drugs are messy, grief is messy, I haven't seen this worst-case scenario play out IRL but I can see how it could.

Thanks for creating this <3

(also, noticed an error: midway thru it says "image 'bg carz' not found." instead of whatever image is supposed to be there)

You are nailing body diversity in your pinup games more than I've seen in any other dress up game. Or frankly, any type of game. It brings me so much delight!! Absolutely joyful to play around with.

Ohhhhhh that was awful. Delicious!

Just fucking incredible. Does things I haven't seen in any other piece of fiction. Absolutely gutted me.

This game captures the plural experience better than most, certainly feels like it was written by someone who has personal experience.

Took a turn I really didn't expect. This was sad/unsettling/lovely.
The art is unique and incredible to look at, it's just very pleasing! Such a distinct style.

oooo what a unique idea! enjoyable blend of frustration and fun

YAY thank yoou

does Blood Machine have social media/a site where i could see more of her art? it's super cool and i very much wanna see more

cuuuute omg!!

TLDR; This is astonishingly good and severely fucked up. If you are, or have been at some point, an outcast, queer, and terminally online, and you're down to read some fucked up shit, this will probably hit for you too.

LONG THOUGHTS RAMBLE:
I connected with the story so much more than i thought i would. At first i couldn't keep track of all of the characters, but after sitting with them for a while, they are so much like people i've known and situations i've been in. Enough to make me reflect on my own life and my friends.

Can't say i've experienced the sheer level of violence present in most of the story. But playing text therapist for friends, new relationship mania, struggling to adapt to grief, devastating mood swings, wanting to help but not being able to -- all the emotions around that were so specific and hauntingly familiar.

Being able to write 5-8 main characters whose perspectives are switched between is a pretty incredible feat as well. Wouldn't have been the same without it. I think having everyones perspectives is what made me so reflective while reading this. When have I been in these situations, and what have I done?

The way everyone is deeply morally gray, deeply flawed, is so well written. Your first impression of someone may be that they're nasty, but later you see their redeeming qualities. Or you meet them and you're like "this person seems pretty nice" and then their awful qualities are revealed later on. It's impossible to be a perfect friend to your friends no matter how deeply you love. So many of these relationships get close to abusive but don't actually cross that line. And that feels reflective of the world -- people can vascilate between insensitive, loving, thoughtful, self-absorbed, and distractable so easily.

I have so many thoughts I'm definetly forgetting a whole chunk of them, but this review is plenty long. Thank you for creating this thing that is so unique and unfiltered in its beauty and its ugliness.

Also That scene between Nessa and Argo scratched such a specific itch for me with its combination of gentleness, emotional intimacy, and intoxicating violence -- thank you <3

Meat Girl is a wonderful and visceral story! Thank you for making it <3

oh yeah my bad! i meant to say unzipping. i haven't since usually my computer can just unzip things with no extra program, but I can give it a try and get back to you

Trying to download this for mac and I keep getting an error that says "Unable to expand [file] into "Downloads". (Error 1 - Operation not permitted." :( the demo downloaded fine, though
