Wonderful sound design, parry worked well, generally a great entry!
Parry mechanic felt good - it was a good balance between hard to execute without feeling frustrating. Boss was fun, attacks were similar enough to previous enemies that I knew what was going on while still feeling novel - that can be a hard balance to land! Second phase was a fun touch, especially fun to see in the context of a gamejam.
- I would've liked to see the fusion play into the gameplay a bit more; it felt like a missed opportunity to have a fused double-headed player character that had no real advantage to the mutation (arm vs sword but you could get that with a generic knight).
- I found myself just jumping past most of the enemies rather than fighting; something I've discovered in my own gamedev journey is that more health doesn't always mean harder, it just means more tedious for the player, and that's about how this felt - I think it would've felt better had it been less health on enemies with faster attack animation; slow animations + more HP makes the game feel like it's running in slow-mo
I liked the concept of the main character, the platforming is ok and the boss can be fun. I think the only thing I could give feedback is that the parry sound would be nice if it’s a little less high pitched and the song can feel repetitive after a few tries on the boss
Outside of that, I like the hit feedback and the sound of the attack animation, the small slowdown on hit and making an action is nice and I like that you don’t get damage on enemy contact, it helps with the platforming to feel fast :)
Loved the gameplay! Great simple platformer that's enjoyable to run through, but not too easy that I can just hack and slash away. Quite enjoyed the final boss, encapsulates all the aspects of the game well!
Some notes for improvements:
Would've loved to be able to rebind inputs as well as fullscreen the game in itch! And also as others have mentioned, the environment is missing a little bit of pop!
Really nice art and animations/particles! I really liked the designs of the character and the enemies. I also liked the interactive tutorial at the start of the game. I personally enjoyed using the parry as well. I think my biggest gripe would be the wait time for attacks, and how long you stay in place for. Another thing that would be nice is more visual cues that indicate that you are dealing damage to an enemy. There is one for the boss which is nice, but it would be great to have throughout the game for all the different enemies. A death animation for the enemies would also be a great add instead of just having the sprite disappear after a few seconds. Other than that, I think everything blended together quite well, and the music was really fitting too. Good job on the submission!
I liked that game. The parry mechanic needed good timing, but I think it's better like it is.
I like the artstyle, nice character and animations.
The music didn't feel repetitive. Good SFX, except the parry one, that doesn't fits really well the action imo.
The only thing that could have been improved is the theme interpretation. It was fair, but not enough gameplay-based.
Nice game! Visuals were nice, I liked the enemy designs. The parry was a neat addition, a bit hard to pull of at times, but maybe that was just a skill-issue on my part.
Behold my first WR
I like the combat visuals. The character designs are also pretty nice.
However, I think the theme interpretation is a bit weak. It only connects to the jam theme on a visual, sort of superfluous level. Would have loved to see some mechanics stemming from the "fusion" of characters.
The parry mechanics also feel a little bit off. I don't mind parrying mechanics at all in game, but I feel like either the timing or the hitboxes for melee attacks differ from projectile attacks so it feels a bit harder to parry melee.
You also said it's a metroidvania game but as far as I can tell I couldn't explore much yet. Maybe I missed something but if exploration was part of the mechanics I think it should be made clearer.
Would have loved to see more background arts and itch page visuals.
For some strange and grotesque reasons, I love the character design a lot. I don't know, it might be bizarre to look at in real life, but at least in drawing it's always intriguing. Gameplay is a bit slow but not as responsive as one may imagine. At least combat felt reasonably paced. The boss felt a bit easy, but overall the game is solid.
Other things I like:
Suggestions:
awesome theme implementation, i really love the visuals! the combat feels a little rigid to me
Played live and gave feedback in Discord!- Well done & hope you enjoyed the jam!
